"Politehnica" University of Timisoara is one of the greatest and most remarkable technical universities of Central and Eastern Europe. It was established in 1920, short after the unification of all Romanian territories, in the context of redefinition of the European states, that followed the World War I, in response to the need for engineers, that were required by the economic development of the Romanian society. During its 90 year existence, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara produced over 100,000 engineers, highly appreciated in Romania and abroad for their competence and professionalism. At present, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara has 10 faculties and 4 independent departments. This is the place for work and study of approx. 15.000 students, 800 titular teachers and approx. 900 administrative staff and auxiliary teachers. The studies within "Politehnica" University of Timisoara are organised according to “Bologna” model and include the three study cycles: bachelor studies, MBA, PhD. The profiles, curricula and syllabus of "Politehnica" University of Timisoara fully respond to the current social needs, as the university maintains close relationships with the civil society. In 2007, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara provided the civil society with 1.796 graduates, and approx. 2.000 in 2008. Besides its famous education, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara plays a first rank role in the Romanian research, with remarkable results at international level. Various research centers and ad-hoc research teams on various domains successfully implement the University research strategy, within loan projects and research contracts won by competition. The research results are reflected in research reports, patents, and products , which brought the University fame and important funds. "Politehnica" University of Timisoara owns an education and research infrastructure that can compete with the most famous European universities as to building space and equipment. The existing level is the result of an investment of over 1,500 billion old lei in the latest period. In addition to these investments, a new library is under construction, that is supported by the Romanian Government with a state budget of 15 million EUR; the library shall be finalised and become functional at the end of 2008. Lately, one of the priorities of "Politehnica" University of Timisoara has been the international activity and cooperation. The University has concluded cooperation agreements with over 100 universities of Europe, and also USA, Canada and Japan. The cooperation develops within EU programs and direct bilateral framework. The students of "Politehnica" University of Timisoara benefit of an impressive campus, which includes 16 hostels – approx. 5.500 places – and a restaurant. All the rooms -1.800 – are provided with excellent internet connection and TV cable; in 2007, the hostel rooms were provided with fridge and new furniture. "Politehnica" University of Timisoara has developed an excellent sports base for its students and employees, which includes: a sports room, a covered semi-olympic swimming pool, tennis fields, basketball fields, football fields, mini-football and handball fields, a semi-competition racing path, etc. The human environment within "Politehnica" University of Timisoara is defined by mutual respect and understanding, which is a comfortable environment and encourages performance. This is also the result of contribution from the non-governmental organisations’ employees – syndicate – and the students leagues, that are in positive relations with the university management.
